Since it was founded in 1883, El Almendro has been the global leader in the fine almond confectionery segment. Turron is a traditional sweet that has been made in Spain for over 600 years by mixing almonds, honey and sugar. It’s origins are uncertain although evidence shows that it was made by the Arabs living in Spain in the Middle Ages. It is documented that Turron was introduced as a dessert among the upper social classes in the 16th century. It did not become widely popular until the 1700s when it began to be distributed at a larger scale by the Turron manufactures.
