Gouda is Holland’s most famous cheese made with whole or part-skimmed cow’s milk. The fat content lends a slightly creamier texture and a yellow interior dotted with tiny holes. Aged Gouda is flavourful, pale orange cheese made from cow’s milk. After the sweet and salty cheese ages for several years, it develops a slight butterscotch-like flavor. It is an ideal cheese to enjoy with wine, particularly when paired with red varieties.

Royal FrieslandCampina is a multinational dairy company wholly owned by the dairy cooperative Zuivelcoöperatie FrieslandCampina, which has 14,391 member dairy farms in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.  While it the cooperative produces many products, the company’s cheese division, originally Friesland Foods Cheese, is one of the oldest cheese producers in the Netherlands, now producing over 350,000t per year of various cheeses and has been a pioneer in Holland’s famous cheese culture.

 

 

The company was founded in 1879 and currently employs more than 19,000 personnel. Following the company’s 125th anniversary in 2004, the company was granted the royal charter from Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
