Val Verde

Grissini are long and thin sticks of crisp, dry bread originating in the Turini region and the surrounding area in Italy. They are originally thought to have been created in the 14th century; although according to a local story, they were invented by a baker in Lanzo Torinese (northern Italy) in 1679.

 

Made in Italy from a traditional recipe, Val Verde Grissini are made using only the finest ingredients with extra virgin olive oil giving its unique taste and flavour. Traditional breadsticks give the classic flavour of freshly baked bread with a golden, crunchy aspect. They integrate perfectly with all kinds of dishes and meals. Only extra virgin olive oil and no hydrogenated fats are used in the production.

Around 1675, the young Duke Vittorio Amadeo di Savoia was so sick he couldn’t keep anything down so Carlo Emanuele II asked a baker from Turin, Antonio Brunero, to create something that the young duke could digest. The request was for something ‘long, light and subtle’. From his ovens, Antonio produced a thin crispy breadstick called ‘Ghersino’, a smaller version of ‘Ghersa’, which was a long thin bread. The young Duke ate the breadsticks until he recovered from his illness, thus saving the monarchy and also initiating a new food sensation to the country
